Hamilton, ON – Neighbour to Neighbour Centre is delighted to report that The Lawyers’ Legacy for Children has awarded the Hamilton Community Food Centre funds that will help run Children’s Food Literacy Programs for 2019.

The Lawyers’ Legacy for Children (“LLC”) is a fund created to collectively inspire and enable children and young people to nourish and develop their knowledge, talents and values in the spirit of community, generosity and responsibility which has traditionally characterized the contributions of the lawyers of Hamilton. The LCC fund provides meaningful assistance to children and young people in the Hamilton area in the sprit endorsed by this legacy fund.

The Lawyers’ Legacy for Children Fund will support 300 students participating in Neighbour to Neighbour’s community garden program, where they will learn to plan, harvest and understand where their food comes from, engage with 60 children through March Break and Summer Camps, welcome 40 children participating in After-School and Kids Club Summer programming while receiving healthy snacks and learning how to prepare a healthy meal.

“With the support of the Lawyer’s Legacy Fund we can continue our cooking and gardening for children programs in 2019 and expand our programs to include a wider age range of children and provide additional school visits, weeks of camp, PA Day activities and innovative learning opportunities. This will mean more children in our community can learn where their food comes from, practice how to cook nutritious snacks and meals, and improve their healthy food choices.” – Amy Angelo, Manager of Food Access and Skills

A small meet and greet took place at the Hamilton Community Food Centre on Wednesday, December 19 where Janet Booy, chair of the Lawyers’ Legacy for Children fund presented a cheque to Krista D’Aoust, Director of Community Food and Family Services and Amy Angelo, Manager of Food Access and Skills totaling $40,000.
